Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Štajerska is a regional independent, voluntary, non-profitable association of legal and natural persons who are dealing with profitable business activity and are gathering in the chamber because of similar interests. Regular university chemistry studies started in 1919 when the University of Ljubljana was established. It is interesting to note that the first doctoral degree was awarded in chemistry to Ms. Anka Mayer in 1920. The Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering runs postgraduate programmes in the following areas: Inorganic chemistry, Organic chemistry, Analytical chemistry, Physical chemistry, and Biochemistry. The Department of Chemical Technology offers programmes in Chemical technology and Materials Science which offers specialisation in inorganic materials and polymer science. The Faculty also participates in the postgraduate programme of Environmental protection run by the University, and in the Materials programme offered by the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering.

The Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Informatics (FERI) is a scientific institute with explicitly regional, national and international significance. The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering was founded in 1995, but its beginnings go back as far as 1959. The Textile Technology Department joined the Mechanical Engineering Department ten years later and has remained its constituent part ever since. Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at University of Maribor is scientific-research and pedagogical institution and is due to its integration work and its successfulness, competitive to European and world-wide Universities. As University member, the faculty represents the progress of science in mechanical engineering, textile, industrial and environmental protection engineering resulting in excellent bibliography (high-impact original scientific papers, patents, and conference contribution).

The Styrian Business Development Agency (SFG) supports businesses and the Styrian economy as such in different ways, namely by:
