Regular university chemistry studies started in 1919 when the University of Ljubljana was established. It is interesting to note that the first doctoral degree was awarded in chemistry to Ms. Anka Mayer in 1920.
The Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering runs postgraduate programmes in the following areas: Inorganic chemistry, Organic chemistry, Analytical chemistry, Physical chemistry, and Biochemistry. The Department of Chemical Technology offers programmes in Chemical technology and Materials Science which offers specialisation in inorganic materials and polymer science. The Faculty also participates in the postgraduate programme of Environmental protection run by the University, and in the Materials programme offered by the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering.
